altFEBRUARY 13 - JERRY COLANGELO (pictured), the director of USA Basketball, will meet members of the Beijing Olympic team tomorrow to talk about being preparations for London 2012 early.

Instead of seeking a three-year commitment, as he did for the Beijing Olympics, Colangelo said he will ask players to be part of the 2010 World Championship team in Turkey and the 2012 Olympic squad in London, where they will be defending the title they won in the Chinese capital last year.

If the United States wins the World Championship, it would not need to compete in the regional qualifying tournament in 2011.

Colangelo said: "I really want only a two-year commitment, not a three.

"But I'm picking the years - 2010, 2012."

Colangelo said he does not need commitments for another year.

He said: "I'll let the players make their own decision.

"If they want to be considered for 2012, they should know it would probably be important to participate in 2010.

"Otherwise we're going to have a group representing us in '2010 that will have a lot of consideration for 2012.

"So it's going to be up to the players - no push, no ask, just tell me what you think."

Colangelo also said he would invite 24 "young" NBA players to Las Vegas for a camp this summer.

Those players would be considered for the World Championship roster, which would be finalised in 2009.

He said: "I'm assuming that we'll have a large representation from the Olympic team that played for us in Beijing and there'll be some additions from this young group."
