June 22 - Sir Clive Woodward (pictured), the coach of England's 2003 World Cup winning rugby side, has been selected to join the International Olympic Committee's (IOC) newly formed Entourage Commission as a representative of the 205 National Olympic Committees, it was announced today.

The Commission, chaired by 1988 pole vault Olympic champion Sergey Bubka, is responsible for addressing matters relating to coaches, trainers and the athletes’ support team in general, including doping.

It was set-up following a recommendation by the Olympic Congress in Copenhagen last October, which Sir Clive attended in his role as the British Olympic Association's Director of Olympic Performance.

Sir Clive said: "It is a great honour and privilege to be invited to become a member the IOCs’ Entourage Commission.

"I am looking forward to working alongside great Olympians such as Sergey Bubka, to deliver insights and recommendations in the interests of serving the coaches, trainers and support staff of athletes."

Sir Clive joins a Commission that also includes several Olympic champions, including France's Guy Drut, the 1976 Montreal 110 metres hurdles champion, and America's Angela Ruggiero, who has won four medals in ice hockey, including gold at Nagano in 1998.

Other members of the Commission include Pat McQuaid, the President of cycling's world governing body, the UCI, and Jordan's Prince Feisal.

Sir Clive said: "Through my work with the Olympic Coaching Programme we have identified that behind every truly great athlete is a world class coach and support staff.

"The Entourage Commission will play a crucial role in focussing on the development and endeavours of the ‘team behind the athlete’, and I am delighted to offer my expertise, particularly on matters relating to coaching, to the IOC."
