With just over 10 days left before the ticketing application process ends, Glasgow 2014 claimed it has received hundreds of thousands of requests across the programme of 17 sports since nearly one million tickets went on sale on August 19.

A report published by Glasgow 2014 shows that as well as diving, track cycling and triathlon, artistic gymnastics and swimming already have "substantially more ticket requests than seats available", while track and field, the Opening and Closing Ceremonies and judo are among the other events already proving "very popular".

Glasgow 2014 explained that tickets for oversubscribed events will be allocated by "a fair, simple draw".

It also offered advice on how to improve chances of securing tickets, including opting for early rounds of competitions in sports such as boxing and judo, applying for disciplines played over several days such as badminton, table tennis, netball and lawn bowls, and going for events in larger venues such as rugby sevens.

"We're really enthused by the continued high demand across all sports and ceremonies and are focused on ensuring everyone who wants to experience the excitement of the Games can make the ticket choices that are right for them," Glasgow 2014 deputy chief executive Ty Speer said.

"With 10 days to go until the end of the application phase, my advice to people who want to be part of this great sporting occasion is to give yourself time to explore the opportunities and enjoy making your choices.

"Don't leave it to the last minute.

"Of course, everyone is free to apply for all tickets to all sports and ceremonies until September 16.

"Today's progress report is simply indicative of where demand is most intense and where best opportunities of successful ticket applications lie."

The update report was launched at the National Badminton Academy at Scotstoun in Glasgow, where Team Scotland prospects Kirsty Gilmour and Jillie Cooper, who both represented their nation at Delhi 2010, are in training for next year's event on home turf.

"My first Commonwealth Games in Delhi 2010 was a fantastic learning experience for me as I was only 17 when I was selected and it was a great honour to be a part of Team Scotland," Gilmour said.

"Now the prospect of my second Games being in Glasgow is incredibly exciting and a huge opportunity for all Team Scotland athletes to benefit from the amazing backing of passionate home crowds.

"The Emirates Arena will be a brilliant venue for Badminton and I hope as many people as possible apply for tickets because I know how much it will mean to the players to have their support."

Applications for Glasgow 2014 tickets is due to close at 1800 local time on Monday, September 16.
