Doping samplesOctober 13 - The Commonwealth Games have received perhaps their most devastating blow yet with news that women's 20 kilometres walker Rani Yadav has tested positive for banned steroid nandrolone.

The 20-year-old, who finished sixth on Saturday (October 9) after clocking 1 hour 42min 54sec, becomes the third competitor at the Games to fail a drugs test.

Women's 100m winner Damola Osayemi and her Nigerian compatriot and men's 110m hurdler Samuel Okon both tested positive for the banned stimulant methylhexaneamine.

However, Yadav's positive test is certain to do far more damage to the event with the credibility of the host nation's athletes now likely to be called into question.

A grim-looking Commonwealth Games Federation President Mike Fennell revealed the news of a failed test at a press conference here this morning but had not named Yadav because under the anti-doping rules she had to be informed of the result first.

Fennell said: "We have received another positive result."

Organising Committee secretary general Lalit Bhanot added: "It's very unfortunate.

"We tried our level best.

"The Government is very serious about these things.

"One can't be controlled if the person is trying to take some forbidden substance to enhance their performance."

Fennell also confirmed that Nigerian Osayemi, who had asked for her B-sample to be tested, has now been stripped of her 100m title after the second sample was also positive.

Natasha Mayers, who finished second on the podium to take St Vincent and the Grenadines' first athletics medal of the Games, will now be elevated to gold, England's Katherine Endacott to silver and Bertille Delphine Atangana of Cameroon to bronze.

Meanwhile Okon, who finished sixth in the 110m hurdles final, waived his right to a B-sample tested and was disqualified.

Doping has been a recurring problem in India with weightlifting producing the highest number of offenders - six were banned last year and almost as many this year.

Four wrestlers were also axed from India's squad last month after testing positive for methylhexaneamine.
