Team GB_gold_medal_minature_sheet_collectionJune 9 - Royal Mail have announced a series of celebratory first class stamps of Team GB's greatest moments during the summer Games which will be ready less than 24 hours after each win – creating their first "over night" stamp to ever be issued.

Each sheet will consist of six stamps finished with the name, sport and definitive image of every Team GB gold medal winner or team and will be available to buy from 500 Post Offices in the country.

The quick and dedicated operation has many photographers, graphic designers to printers on board to make it happen.

Each athlete will be photographed during their winning moment and all the images will be sent to Royal Mail.

From here, a team of experienced designers will choose the best image that captures the win in its full glory and will turn this into a template, which will then be sent to six secret locations around the UK ready for printing.

The unique gold stamps will then be printed over night and will be ready for distribution by noon the following day – irrespective of the time of the gold medal being won.

Philatelics may be keen to know that there are first day cover miniature sheets available featuring the Olympic Park address postmark.

There is also an opportunity to subscribe to the Official 2012 Compendium which features a preface by five-time gold medallist Sir Steve Redgrave and is specially designed to store the miniature sheets in a memorable place.

Royal Mail's different subscription packages range from £68.40 ($105.78/€84.90) to £91.20 ($141.01/€112.66), however, these prices are based on Team GB following suit from the 2008 Beijing Olympics where they won 19 gold medals.

Payments will be made on August 13 once the Games are finished and all results are confirmed.

Each person who subscribes will be given a free presentation folder, the subscription date closes on June 15, or alternatively stamps can be bought individually or in a sheet from one of the 500 Post offices around the country, which will all be open on Sundays during the Games.

The Post Offices to be participating will all be confirmed at a later date.

The Team GB gold medal winners stamps are just one of many collections Royal Mail are releasing in the build up to the 2012 Olympic Games, which today marks 50 days to go.

The London 2012 Opening Ceremony on July 27 will see the release of the "Welcome to the Olympics" stamp along with the selection of stamps being produced for the Paralympics Games commencing on August 29.

Stamps will be issued from the full 17 days of the London 2012 Olympics, starting on July 27 to Aug 12.
