July 23 - Tiredness prevented rising British sprint star Jodie Williams from extending her incredible 151-race winning streak as she finished a narrow second tonight in the 200 metres final at the World Junior Championships in Moncton, Canada.

Williams, 16, won the 100m on Wednesday (July 21) and was looking to match her double gold from the World Youth Championships last year and it took a 19-year-old, American Stormy Kendrick, producing a personal best time to beat Williams, who said she was feeling the effects of six races in four days.

Kendrick ran 22.99sec to beat Williams' 23.19, while Dutchwoman Jamile Samuel ran third.

Williams said: "I had 12 hours sleep last night because I was absolutely shattered after the 100 metres.

"Six races in four days is an awful lot.

"Not having enough sleep the night before last, wasn't good."

Williams' long unbeaten run stretched back five years.

The Londoner said: "It’s been a long time.

"I knew it would come to an end one day and that’s it, it’s come to an end tonight.

"I’ll be happy later on, but at the moment there’s still great shock at finishing second and losing my unbeaten run.

"Stormy ran really well and I just couldn’t catch her. I think the expectation was way too much, but I did all I could.”
