September 23 - South Africa's Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (Sascoc) has launched a full investigation into the Caster Semenya (pictured) saga, they have announced.

Athletics South Africa (ASA) have promised that they will cooperate fully with the probe into the gender row that has attracted worldwide attention.

Gideon Sam, the President of the Sascoc, will lead the inquiry.

He said: "Sascoc will launch a full investigation into the Semenya matter to ascertain the truth about events leading to the participation and testing of Semenya and subsequent conduct of the officials of the ASA."

Last week, as reported on insidethegames, ASA President Leonard Chuene finally admitted that he knew there were doubts over Semenya's gender before he allowed her to compete at the World Championships in Berlin where she won the gold medal in the 800 metres.

Sam said: "The investigation will result in making recommendations to Sascoc's board on how the matter should be handled and there are various options available to Sascoc.

"It is Sascoc's intention to arrange for meetings, interviews or consultations with ASA officials who will be identified and notified to the ASA in due course, as well as consider any statements relevant to the matter.

"We are mindful of the fact that people are angry and upset but caution that due process must be followed in attempting to uncover the truth."
