July 24 - Duncan Lewis (pictured), has been appointed to the role as strategic lead for commercial, marketing and communications at Commonwealth Games England (CGE), it was announced today.

Lewis, the former marketing director for Land Securities Group, will be responsible for revitalising the CGE brand and positioning it to attract sponsorship for the England team that will compete in Delhi in 2010.

He said: “The Commonwealth Games England brand has huge potential.

"Team England has enjoyed consistent success at recent Commonwealth Games - finishing second only to hosts Australia in Melbourne and winning 110 medals in the process.

Lewis is the latest high-profile appointment to the organisation chaired by Sir Andrew Foster and which recently announced Dame Kelly Holmes as its new President.

He said: “Next October’s Games in Delhi will have additional prominence as a key part of the build-up to London 2012 for so many athletes and will provide a great sponsorship platform as a result.”

Before joining CGE, Lewis had spent time working on secondment at the British Olympic Association and, prior to his role at Land Securities, he held senior marketing roles with Barclays and the Carlson Leisure group.
