altApril 16 - Sebastian Coe (pictured), chairman of London 2012, will give a key hnote address to European Athletics delegates at this weekend's congress in Lausanne.

 

Coe, a double Olympic gold and silver medallist who is also the vice-president of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), will talk about why it is important that the stadium being built for London 2012 retains an athletics track after the Games.

 

He said: "The athletics stadium is the focal point of any Games and the London Games will be no different.

 

"When we presented to the IOC (International Olympic Committee) in Singapore in 2005 we promised a legacy for the sport and I am determined to keep this promise and host subsequent major athletics championships in London post 2012"

Coe has already appointed the competition director for athletics in Terry Colton who was the competition director when the European Athletics Indoor Championships were held in Birmingham in 2007.

Coe will update delegates on the like facilities and conditions they will find in London in 2012 and introduce Colton to the federations.

Coe will also use the opportunity to promote London's bid host the European Athletics Congress in 2011.
