altJune 29 - UK Athletics has returned to Canada for the third time to recruit a coach to help it prepare for London 2012 by poaching Derek Evely (pictured) to run the High Performance Centre at Loughborough University.

He joins Kevin Tyler and Peter Eriksson, who have joined UK Athletics as strategic head of coaching and development and head coach of the Paralympic team respectively.

Evely is currently the sports science manager at the Canadian Athletics Coaching Centre.

He also guides a talented group of athletes that includes Adam Kunkel, the Canadian record-holder in the 400-metre hurdles, and Carline Muir, one of Canada's top female 400 runners.

After Tyler's departure to Britain he had also started coaching Tyler Christopher, the former world indoor 400m champion and a bronze medallist at the 2005 World Championships in Helsinki.

An official announcement of Evely's appointment is expected by UK Athletics within the next 24 hours.

Charles van Commenee, the head coach of UK Athletics, last week announced that Loughborough would be one of two main training centres for 2012 and that resources would be concentrated there and in Lee Valley in London.

Canada has lost several talented coaches and administrators to the British Olympic programme over the past few months.

Besides Tyler and Eriksson, British Triathlon recruited Joel Filiol, who guided Simon Whitfield to the silver medal at the Beijing Olympics, as its new head coach, and Ian Moss, who moved to England Badminton as its new performance director from Rowing Canada Aviron.
