altMAY 27 - EDINBURGH'S Sarah Clark (pictured) has won the –63kg title on the second day of the 2006 European Judo Championships, in Tampere, Finland – beating both the World Champion and reigning European Champion to take gold.

 

The 28-year-old Athens Olympian beat World Champion Lucie Decosse of France in the final to take the top spot on the medal rostrum.  

The title came in a particularly strong field with Clark also beating the reigning European Champion Elisabeth Willeboordse in the semi final.  The Dutch Champion eventually finished third as did Olympic bronze medallist Ylenia Scapinof Italy.

 

"IIt hasn’t really sunk in yet," said Clark. "But I am delighted to be European Champion.”

A second British medal of the day came from Winston Gordon who won his first European medal - a bronze in the –90kg weight category.  The 27 year old from London beat Krzysztof Weglarz of Poland in the repechage final.

 With Craig Fallon’s gold yesterday the two medals today takes Great Britain to the top of the medals table with France in second place.

Tomorrow four times European Champion, Karina Bryant will be looking to hold on to her current European 78kg title
