altTHE Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) has released new pictures of the future of Stratford Regional Station as new hoardings outside the station were unveiled this morning.

The hoardings depict the history of the station and its role in East End life, taking commuters and residents through to what it will look like in 2010 when the work is completed.

The hoardings signal a significant milestone in the £100 million construction project to transform the station to accommodate hundreds of thousands of spectators coming to the Games in 2012, and leave a legacy of improved transport links for East London, the ODA claimed.

By 2016, the number of passengers at Stratford Regional Station in the morning peak is expected to more than double, and the ODA’s work to treble the capacity of the station and improve accessibility will help meet this future demand.

Most of this work will benefit commuters and residents long before the Games, as it will be finished by the end of 2010 - almost two years before the Games.

It includes nine new lifts, new platforms, wider, longer and clearer platforms, and a new station entrance at mezzanine level.

ODA transport director Hugh Sumner said: “The vast majority of spectators going to the Games by train in 2012 will use Stratford Regional Station.

"This £100 million construction project to treble capacity will make sure that we can get everyone to the Olympic Park quickly and safely, as well as serve the growing community in years to come.

“The new pictures we have released today showing the future of Stratford Station giving commuters and residents a sense of what they can expect to see.

"Stratford Station will be completed as early as 2010 - which means that the benefits will be felt two years before the Games start.”

The new entrance at mezzanine level, which is the biggest visible change to the front of the station, will help reduce congestion during the Games.

It will allow people leaving the Olympic Park to bypass the subways and use a new bridge being built by Westfield  to directly access the new Central line and DLR platforms for services towards London .

In the years after the Games, it will continue to help reduce congestion for people using the new parklands and visitors to Stratford City .

Work at the station that has already been completed or is well underway includes:Platform 6/8 has been widened;  platform clutter removed;  work on new canopies on platforms 3, 5, 6 and 8 have started; work on new lift and stairs to the subways have also begun;  new Central Line platform work has started; and work to reopen the eastern subway has begun.

The ODA has also launched a brand new “ParkCam” which shows the work going on behind the hoardings and on the tracks at Stratford Station.

The ParkCam will be showing progress taking place at Stratford Regional Station and will record images throughout the day and night.

The Stratford Station ParkCam brings the total number of ParkCams to seven.
