London live_2012_site_June_23June 18 - Opening on June 21, the London 2012 Festival and London 2012 Live sites will show special films on big screens to mark the first day of nationwide celebrations.


In collaboration with BBC, the Festival will screen a series of films running throughout the day in London and other UK cities including Belfast, Bradford, Cardiff, Coventry, Dover, Edinburgh, Leicester, Liverpool, Londonderry, Manchester, Plymouth and Swansea.

Films made by young people, the Tracey Emin Review Show interview, excerpts from previous BBC Proms and Royal Shakespeare Company shows, as well clips of female comedians performing from the BFI (British Film Institute) archive will all be shown.

For children and families there will be screenings of the Guinness world record breaking and BAFTA winning film The Itch of the Golden Nit, an animated film conceived and drawn entirely by children.

Brought to life by the creators of Wallace and Gromit, the film features the voices of David Walliams, Miranda Hart, Catherine Tate and Rik Mayall.

The day will finish with a live BBC broadcast of The Big Concert from Stirling, Scotland, performed by Gustavo Dudamel and the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela.

Part of the Cultural Olympiad, the London 2012 Festival is a 12-week nationwide celebration for the Olympic and Paralympic Games bringing together leading artists from across the world with best from the UK.
