Ali Mazaheri_April_13April 14 - A total of 25 Asian boxers from ten different weight categories have become the latest fighters to qualify for the London 2012 Olympic Games following the conclusion of the International Boxing Association (AIBA) Asian Olympic Qualifying Event in Astana, Kazakhstan.

Each boxer's participation still requires confirmation by their National Olympic Committee (NOC), but the event saw China, India, Iran and Kazakhstan qualify three boxers each, Japan, Mongolia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan two and Jordan, Korea and Syria qualify one each.

As the only boxer to qualify in the light flyweight (46-49kg) category, the highly rated Birzhan Zhakipov of Kazakhstan leads the way for the continent. 

In the flyweight (52kg) category, Ilays Suleimenov from Kazakhstan, Tugstsogt Nyambayar from Mongolia, Pak Jong Chol from Korea and Katsuaki Susa from Japan all made the grade, while at bantamweight (56kg), Shiva Thapa from India, Wessam Salamana from Syria and Satoshi Shimizu from Japan booked an Olympic place.

In the lightweight (60kg) category, only China's powerful Qiang Liu made the Olympics but light welterweight (64kg) saw Daniyar Yeleussinov from Kazakhstan, Serdar Hudayberdiyev from Turkmenistan, Uktamjon Rahmonov from Uzbekistan and Mehdi Touloutibandpi from Iran all claim a London 2012 spot.

Welterweight trio (69kg) Maimaititue Rsun Qiong from China, Byamba Tuvshinbat from Mongolia and Amin Ghasemipour from Iran also claimed an Olympic slot along with middleweight (75kg) quartet Abbos Atoev from Uzbekistan, Nursahat Pazziyev from Turkmenistan, Sobirjon Nazarob from Tajikistan and Vijender Singh from India.

The light heavyweight (81kg) category saw three boxers qualify for the Olympics with Sumit Sangwan from India, Dzhakon Qurbanov from Tajikistan and Ihab Alamatdault from Jordan making London 2012.

At heavyweight (91kg), Asian Games gold medallist Ali Mazaheri (pictured top in red) from Iran took the only spot while Chinese giant Zholei Zhang took the single super heavyweight place.

The London 2012 boxing competition will take place at the ExCeL between July 28 and August 12 with 250 men and 36 women set to compete across 13 medal events.
