Olympic Stadium_from_air_December_5_2011January 6 - The BBC has bowed to pressure from Newham Council and updated the credits of the popular soap opera EastEnders with the Olympic Stadium.

Nearly a year ago Newham, which is the main Host Borough for London 2012, including the Olympic Stadium, sent a letter to Mark Thompson, the BBC's Director-General calling for the change.

Now, the hit soap has finally unveiled new graphics, which show the Olympic Park, including the Stadium.

"We are delighted to see the BBC has done the right thing," said Sir Robin Wales, the Mayor of Newham.

"It was absurd that the Olympic broadcaster was using credits that seemed to be stuck in a time warp.

"The East End of London is being transformed and it is good to see EastEnders finally reflecting this."

Last March Royal Mail announced that a new E20 postcode district has been introduced for the Olympic Park - the address of the fictitious Borough of Walford where EastEnders is based.

"We welcome in what will be a truly remarkable New Year in E20 by adding the Olympic Park into the opening title sequence," a spokesperson for the BBC said.
