Anastasia Belyakova_04-01-12January 5 - Russia's women boxers are expected to return from London 2012 Olympic Games with at least a gold and a bronze medal when the sport makes its debut, the country's head coach Viktor Lisitsyn has revealed.

Women's boxing will make its Olympic debut in London in the three categories of flyweight (48-51kg), lightweight (57-60kg) and middleweight (69-75kg).

Russia's biggest medal hope is likely to be lightweight Anastasia Belyakova (pictured left) who is currently ranked seventh in the world at the weight by the International Boxing Association (AIBA), but Lisitsyn is hopeful the entire team put in a stellar performance in London to claim two medals.

"At the Olympic Games the team has been set the goal of winning one gold and one bronze medal," he said.

"Winning two medals in just three weight categories is a very difficult task, but nevertheless, we'll do our utmost to put in a good performance in London."

Ahead of London 2012, all eyes will be focused on the 2012 AIBA Women's World Boxing Championships in May in Qinhuangdao, China, as they will act as a the sole qualifier for London.

Although Belyakova will be a strong medal prospect at London 2012, she would cause a huge upset by winning gold in the lightweight category because it is dominated by Ireland's Katie Taylor.

The 25-year-old from County Wicklow is a triple world champion and has won every major prize in the sport.

Russia's next best medal contender in women's boxing is likely to be Inna Sagaydakovskaya who is ranked eleventh in the middleweight category but the pair, along with Russia's other top prospects, will only be thinking of qualification in Qinhuangdao before targeting the podium at the ExCeL Arena where the boxing event will take place.
