London 2012_velodrome_advert_for_ticketsDecember 27 - London 2012 Olympic Games ticket holders will have the chance to resell their tickets next Friday, January 6, and they will then be made available online for customers to purchase on an ongoing basis.

Those with tickets they no longer want for whatever reason can sell their tickets back to London 2012 until February 3, and there will be further opportunities in the spring to take part in the resale programme.

A ticketing account at www.tickets.london2012.com is where those with tickets must go to sell them back to London 2012.

Those tickets resold will not reappear immediately but will be made available online to customers who are still on the hunt for the chance to see some of the Olympic action next summer.

If tickets are sold, the original ticket holder will receive their full face value, though they will be returned if the tickets remain unsold.

Paul Deighton, the London 2012 chief executive, said: 'We asked people to buy tickets more than a year out from the Games and mindful of that, we promised that we would create this system for people whose circumstances may have changed to enable them to resale their tickets legally and safely.

"I'm convinced that most people will want to hold on to their tickets, but we are pleased to offer this resale programme which will give those who wish to use it an opportunity to securely sell their tickets to others who wish to go to the Games or purchase more tickets and help us to achieve our aim of having full venues."

Nick Downing, the Metropolitan Police's detective superintendent of Operation Podium, which is responsible for London 2012 related serious and organised crime, said: "[The] resale platform is an ideal system that enables those who can no longer use their purchased tickets to sell them on to Games fans.

"I would urge all of those ticket holders who want to sell their tickets to do so through London 2012's ticket resale platform."

Tickets are still on sale for the Olympic football tournament and the Paralympic Games.

London 2012 tickets were hugely over subscribed when they went on sale earlier this year, and organisers had estimated that up to a million tickets could be made available for the Olympic Games next year
