Jackie Brock-Doyle_head_and_shouldersNovember 30 - Jackie Brock-Doyle, director of communications and public affairs for London 2012, has been named CorpComms Communications Professional of the Year, beating a field that included Prince Charles' communications secretary.

Brock-Doyle, who has been involved with London 2012 since the early days of the bid, was promoted to her present role in November 2005, shortly after the capital was awarded the Olympics and Paralympics, when Mike Lee left to set up his own company.

The build-up to the Games have been marked by surprisingly few scandals and controversies.

Even the biggest controversy so far - the ticketing programme - was as a result of the popularity of the Games.

Brock-Doyle, who was involved in the Sydney Olympics, joined London shortly after overseeing the marketing and communications programme for the successful 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester, which was the springboard for London's subsequent succesful Olympic bid.

"London 2012 has used its assets extremely well," the judges said in their citation after choosing her ahead of a shortlist that also included Paddy Haverson, who was heavily involved in the successful Royal Wedding between Prince William and Kate Middleton earlier this year.

"Former Olympic medal winners have been used to great effect, while at the same time they have worked well with sponsors to ensure they are maximising the opportunity.

"London 2012 is the first Olympics to take place in a truly digital age.

"It has led to higher levels of transparency and the need to effectively manage multiple platforms.

"When the Olympics site was just a hole in the ground, London 2012's website posted footage of tunnelling activity and artists' impressions of the facilities.

"There have been a lot of early wins for London 2012, such as completing construction work ahead of schedule and on budget, and these have been exploited with great success.

"But more than that, they have managed to deliver high visibility over a prolonged period of time without fatigue setting in."
