PG London_2012_ambassadors_line_upNovember 30 - P&G has announced a host of top athletes as UK Brand Ambassadors for London 2012, including triple Beijing 2008 gold medallist Sir Chris Hoy, 2009 heptathlon world champion Jessica Ennis and European number one T35 100m and 200m runner Sophia Warner.

The company behind Gillette and Pantene, among others, who are a worldwide Olympic sponsor, will be supporting the athletes leading up to and during the London 201 Games.

They will be sponsoring 11 athletes who form part of its ambassadorial team, which also includes Mark Cavendish, Jeanette Kwakye, Keri-Anne Payne, Victoria Pendleton, Paula Radcliffe, Jenna Randall, Ben Rushgrove and Liam Tancock.

Brands represented by the athletes will include head & shoulders, Olay and Oral-B.

Irwin Lee, P&G UK vice-president and managing director, said: "We're very excited to welcome to the P&G family an impressive line-up of athletes who will help us celebrate the London 2012 Games and the role that Mums and families play in raising great kids and great champions.

"We are delighted to be part of the Olympic movement and to support Team GB and their families here in the UK."

More than 100 Olympic and Paralympic Games medals have been won by the P&G team, who also hold five current world records and 31 World Championship titles between them.

"Gillette has a fantastic heritage in sport and I'm delighted to be a part of that," said Hoy.

"Next year will be a once in a lifetime opportunity and I'm looking forward to sharing the journey with Gillette."

World and Olympic champion cyclist Victoria Pendleton, who is an ambassador for Pantene Pro-V, said: "I've used Pantene since I was a little girl so I am thrilled to be the Pantene ambassador in 2012."

The announcement of the team follows P&G's earlier announcement this year of its "Thank You Mum" and "Nearest and Dearest" campaigns, the latter of which will ensure every mother gets to see their son or daughter compete live in London next year.
