Sochi 2014_stunning_view_October_2011October 25 - The Sochi 2014 Supervisory Board has praised the wide support the Winter Olympic and Paralympics Games have received from the whole of Russia.


The Games will be held in Sochi in three years' time and are making good progress according to the progress reports of the International Olympic Committee's (IOC) Coordination Committee.

A meeting of the board was held in Government House in Moscow by Alexander Zhukov, the Deputy Prime Minister, who is also head of the Russian Olympic Committee. 

Afterwards, the Organising Committee were praised for its preparation for the IOC visit earlier this year.

It was said that the rallying of Russia had been the biggest success of the Organising Committee so far, a key part of the legacy strategy.

Sochi is looking to leave a legacy across Russia, and some of the facilities for the Games will be able to be transported elsewhere in the country.

They are also recruiting volunteers from across the nation as they look to inspire a culture of volunteering nationwide.

Preparations for the Cultural Olympiad of the Sochi 2014 Games were also a topic under discussion, with 800 theatre productions staged and 63 entities of Russia involved in the cultural events, which will have reached more than a million people by the end of the year.
