JULY 31 - THE Free Tibet group in Britain have today announced a series of protests they plan to take at the start of the Olympics, which open in Beijing next week.

 

They include an invitation for supporters to join a world-wide "light a candle for Tibet" on the eve of the Games opening next Thursday.

 

The protest will take place in 34 cities around the world with more than half-a-million people in more than 100 countries having so far expressed their support for the campaign.

 

The protest in London will be held outside the Chinese Embassy in Portland Place between 6.30pm and 8pm.

 

Supporters will also gather there the next day at 11.30am to see a ceremony when at 12.08pm, the precise moment the Olympics begin, a Tibetan flag will be raised.

 

Speakers and protesters from various human rights groups will also be present.
