International_Youth_Volunteer_Camp_for_the_2013_Summer_Universiade_19-09-11September 19 - More than 500 volunteers will gather in the Russian city of Kazan this week to take part in an International Youth Volunteer Camp for the 2013 World University Games.

The Universiade is an international, multi-sport event organised for university athletes by the International University Sports Federation (FISU).

The Volunteers' Academy camp will welcome the 18-30-year-old volunteers, from 48 federal regions of Russia and abroad, as well as several dignitaries.

These will include the secretary general of the Olympic Committee of Russia, Marat Bariev, the vice President of FISU, Oleg Matytsin, and members of the Sochi 2014 Organising Committee.

Key aims of the camp are to help develop the volunteer movement in Russia, create a positive image of the country around the world and establish cooperation between volunteers from various regions of Russia and overseas.

The camp was initiated by the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Tatarstan, and the Kazan 2013 executive directorate, with the support of the Ministry of Sports, Tourism and Youth Policy of the Russian Federation and Directorate of Youth and Sports of the Council of Europe.

The Volunteers' Academy programme includes education, sports and cultural events aimed at training volunteers for large sporting events.

There is a choice of five courses at the camp for Kazan 2013 volunteers: promoter, reporter, recruiter, educator and creator. Sports event management experts will host masterclasses and workshops in which representatives of volunteer organisations can exchange their experiences.

On the opening day of the camp, the Kazan 2013 executive directorate will announce the launch of the Make U Real volunteer selection programme for the 27th World University Summer Games in Kazan.

Kazan will also host the 2015 World Swimming Championships and stage matches for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

It has also expressed an interest in applying for the 2018 Youth Olympic Games.
