The GE Canary Wharf Triathlon, which will be raced around Canary Wharf and One Canada Place, will involve heats as well as finals for a high-powered international field that will also include Stimpson's British rival Hollie Avil, who finished two places behind her in 12th at last weekend's European Championships in Pontevedra.

The Super Sprint format comprises a 400 metres swim, a 10 kilometres bike and a 2km run.

The final event in the five-race series will be London Triathlon on July 17, which the best three results counting for each competitor.

Stimpson, a London 2012 hopeful, is seeking a hat-trick this year after winning the Super Series in 2009 and 2010.

"I am really excited about taking part in the GE Canary Wharf Triathlon," she said.

"I had the pleasure of going down and taking a little peek at where the race will take place and I have no idea how they are going to put a race on there as its right in the centre.

"It will make it such a fantastic venue."

Avil, who was delighted with her European showing in Spain last weekend, said: "I raced a Super Sprint event in Hyde Park a few years ago and I thought it was great fun. "It's nice to do something different and the shorter distance is a bit more exciting too as there's more room for error and little slip ups, you can't be slow in transition."

Jarrod Shoemaker, one of the 2008 United States team member, added: "The opportunity to race in the evening around Canary Wharf and One Canada Place is something that I cannot pass up. It will be an entirely different setting than I am used to and the race itself will be fast and furious.

"My decision to come over and race the Super Sprint came about for a few reasons.

"London is obviously hosting the 2012 Olympic Games and I really enjoy all of the time I get to spend in the capital leading into 2012.

"I want London to feel like a second home to me next year."

Ian Braid, British Triathlon Director for Major Events, commented: "The new addition to the five-race British Triathlon Super Series is fantastic and very different to all the other events in the competition.

"British Triathlon is indebted to Canary Wharf Management allowing us to bring the exciting sport of triathlon into the heart of the city, creating a fantastic experience for competing athletes and spectators alike."

In addition to the British Triathlon Super Series, Canary Wharf will also see amateur athletes competing in a 'corporate wave' where Canary Wharf tenants will take part in a relay challenge.

The action gets underway at 6.15pm with the elite women's Heat one followed by the elite men's Heat 1 at 6.55pm.

The evening will conclude with a medal ceremony at 10.05pm.
