The agreement was signed between Dmitry Chernyshenko, the chief executive and President of Sochi 2014, and Nikolai Pryanishnikov, the President of Microsoft Russia, in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Kozak and Jean-Philippe Courtois, the President of Microsoft International.

Microsoft, founded in Albuquerque, in 1975 made a profit of $18.760 billion (£11.656 billion) last year and will be providing software support to Sochi 2014.

"The Games in Sochi are attracting more and more leading companies in the market and signing a company the size of Microsoft, once again proves it," said Chernyshenko. 

Microsoft also worked with the organisers of the Beijing 2008 Olympics.

"The agreement with Microsoft is particularly valuable because the company has the unique experience of cooperation with the Organising Committee of the Games in Beijing," said Chernyshenko. 

"Therefore, Microsoft know, from the insides, the requirements of the Olympics."

Microsoft hope that the deal will help them consolidate their position in Russia, one of the fastest growing markets in the world. 

"Being chosen as a supplier of Sochi 2014 is an honour for us," said Pryanishnikov.

"The agreement opens up broad horizons of cooperation in which we will be happy to provide our most advanced and innovative software solutions.

"This support for the 2014 Games is the next step in support of the innovative development of Russia and the full potential of its citizens."
