Munich_2018_balloon_at_Allianz_ArenaJune 9 - A huge celebration of Germany's passion for winter sports will be held at the Allianz Arena on Saturday (June 9) when an estimated 25,000 supporters will attend an event that Munich 2018 officials are hoping will give their bid to host the Olympics and Paralympics a boost.

The event, which is due to included 40 of Munich's leading ambassadors and also feature 800 young athletes, is set to offer eight hours of entertainment at Bayern Munich's home stadium and will be broadcast across Germany.

Allianz SE, a partner of Munich 2018, are putting on the event titled "Stars, the Winter Games and You!" and are promising an event with a uniquely Bavarian flavour, with a mixture of sport, music and other entertainment.

Munich 2018 sports ambassadors Georg Hackl, three-time Olympic champion in luge, and Markus Wasmeier, two-time Olympic champion in alpine skiing, will be among the stars taking to the stage in support of the bid and showcase their skills for the public, who will be urged to show their support for their city to beat rivals Annecy and Pyeongchang in the battle to host the Games.

"It's really great that people from across the nation will join us in Munich this weekend to back the bid - it shows just how much the public is behind us," said Bernhard Schwank, the chief executive of Munich 2018.

"We also get to show the world that Munich is the place to be for winter sports, even in the height of summer.

"The fans and performers will enjoy an exhilarating atmosphere.

"The whole stadium will be buzzing with excitement and anticipation – just what you need for a successful Winter Games.

"Passionate engagement from the fans is something the international sporting community can expect when visiting Munich and this event will be no exception."

Each Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games discipline will be represented by huge balloon icons.

'This really will be a great day," said Wasmeier, the 1994 Olympic giant slalom and Super-G gold medallist.

"We Bavarians will show what we can do.

"People will experience the Allianz Arena from two very different perspectives at once – a winter sports celebration in the middle of summer."
