sochi_2014_sliding_centre_06-06-11June 7 - Sochi 2014 and SC Olympstroy have announced the launch of a programme to recognise achievements in implementing effective environmental solutions within Olympic construction, marking World Environment Day last Sunday (June 5).

The two key aims of the programme are to encourage organisations to adopt innovative ways of protecting the environment and to ensure that the most successful practices are used across all construction projects.

Applicants will have their work evaluated by an expert jury of environmental construction specialists from Russia and across the world, with the winners being announced at a grand ceremony within the 2011 International Investment Forum in Sochi.

An award from the recognition programme not only provides international confirmation of the organisation's environmental credentials, but also acknowledges the jury's opinion of their impact on the legacy to be left after the Games.

World Environment Day was marked several events taking place in the next Winter Games host city, which aimed to help preserve and promote the unique biodiversity of the region, with Sochi 2014 Organising Committee partners also playing an active role in the events.

Events included concert in the AF Debolskaya Organ and Chamber Music Hall.
