Water_polo_womenMay 13 - Britain's women will compete in the 2011 FINA World League in Barcelona against Hungary, Greece and Spain this weekend as they look to win a spot among the world's water polo elite.

The World League is water polo's biggest event after the World Championships and Olympic Games.

And the British team will be up against it, with former world champions Hungary, Olympic silver medallists Greece, and European silver medallists Spain the opposition.

Britain played Spain recently in a European qualifier, and captain Fran Leighton said:"We're going into the matches looking to have some good quality close games.

"Obviously we gained lots of confidence when we played Spain the other week so it will be a case of putting everything that we learnt into practice, but we respect the abilities of these teams and we know we won't get anything easily.

"Any mistake we make is going to be penalised so we just have to focus on playing the best that we can."

Last year Britain beat both Germany and Italy but failed to make it to the Super final.

Britain will travel to Spain for the first leg this weekend, before they travel to Athens next week for the final round of matches.

The teams which finish first and second will qualify for the 2011 FINA World League Super Final, which is due to place in in Tianjin, China, from June 14-19.
