medalMarch 3 - The International Olympic Committee (IOC) have revealed they will be offering fans a chance to make Olympic history by designing the medals for the inaugural Winter Youth Olympic Games in Innsbruck in 2012.

The competition, which follows the success of the medal design competition for the inaugural Summer Youth Olympic Games in Singapore last year, invites people from around the world to submit their designs for the medals which will be awarded to the podium finishers at Innsbruck 2012 which takes place from January 13-22.

Gian-Franco Kasper, the chairman of the Coordination Commission for Innsbruck 2012 and President of the International Ski Federation (FIS), believes the competition will be extremely exciting for fans of the event.

"We are really excited to launch this new competition," said Kasper, who is also a member of the IOC.

"We look forward to engaging with fans and can't wait to discover the creativity and imagination of young people across the world."

Participants of the competition will be able to upload their design from March 1 to April 29, 2011 on the official website.

The public will then vote for their favourite medal designs.

After the public have voted, the ten most popular designs will be submitted to an IOC jury who will select the final winner.

The winning designer will receive a VIP trip for two to the Innsbruck 2012 Youth Olympic Games, including flights, hotel accommodation as well as entry to the Opening Ceremony and competitions.
