Taekwondo_logo_Jan_26January 26 - The "young and ambitious" British taekwondo team is looking for key sponsors in the run-up to London 2012, it was announced today.

Sport Taekwondo UK Ltd, the body responsible for preparation, management and performance, is seeking a title partner and supporting partners for the team, its major event programme and a number of other assets and initiatives linked both to 2012 as well as to longer term planning for future Olympics.

Sport Taekwondo chairman Jeremy Beard said: "With the Games fast approaching, this is an exciting time for taekwondo in this country and a really attractive opportunity for partners keen to engage with a successful British team in the lead-up to London 2012.

"In Olympic terms taekwondo is still young and is edgy and dynamic, but it has also retained the traditional values of honour, discipline and respect that has seen the sport flourish since being introduced to the Games in 2000.

"Our own team is young and ambitious and it is no surprise that Britain is emerging as genuine medal contenders both for the World Championships this coming May and of course for the Games in 2012.

Jade Jones jumps in the air"Our athletes, who include world number one Aaron Cook, Beijing 2008 medallist Sarah Stevenson and the Youth Olympic champion Jade Jones (pictured), are already inspiring young people right across the UK and we are poised to make a big impression at the Games next year.

"With world-class British athletes competing in what is a relatively new and fast growing sport, we think it's a fantastic proposition and great value for the right brand to join us on our journey to the Games and share in the legacy, beyond 2012."

Partners will have access to British team athletes for personal appearances and demonstrations, as well as rights to athlete and team imagery.

As well as the British team, partners will have rights ownership to Sport Taekwondo's major annual events including:

* The British National Championships, attracting over 500 athletes from around the UK and taking place at the Manchester Velodrome from June 19-20.

* The British International Open, considered one of the most prestigious events on the international calendar and broadcast by both BBC and Sky Sports in 2010, staged at Sportcity, Manchester from October 1-2.

Sport Taekwondo adds it will work closely with partners to develop and deliver a comprehensive PR and marketing programme across all partnership rights.
