Manju_Wanniarachchi_with_Sri_Lanka_flagJanuary 18 - Welsh boxer Sean McGoldrick must wait until at least May before he discovers whether he is to be awarded a Commonwealth Games gold medal after a hearing into the Sri Lankan Manju Wanniarachchi, who tested positive for banned anabolic steroids, was postponed until May, it was announced today.

Wanniarachchi, who won a gold medal in the 56kg weight bantamweight category the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi last October beating McGoldrick in the final, was suppose to face Commonwealth Games Federation Court yesterday in Kingston, Jamaica, after returning an adverse analytical finding for nandrolone from an anti-doping test.

But the CGF said that the hearing was postponed at the request of the athlete and his legal team after an illness precluded Wanniarachchi's legal representative from attending the Court in Jamaica.

The hearing will take place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in May.

CGF President Michael Fennell said the decision to delay the hearing had not been taken lightly.

"However, under the rules of the CGF's Anti-Doping Standard (ADS) and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) code, all athletes are entitled to legal representation at their hearing and consequently the late application for a postponement was agreed," a statement from the CGF said.

"While the delay is regrettable, it is unavoidable given the circumstances."
