Sunday saw UAE secure 18 medals in karate, 10 in swimming, four in judo, three in archery and two in cycling for a record number of medals on a single day since competition started on 16 April. With 73 gold, 86 silver and 72 bronze medals, UAE are comfortably top of the medal table.

One event where the hosts were out of luck was in the women's 3x3 basketball where Kuwait beat them 17-6 in the semi-finals before defeating Saudi Arabia 21-7 to take gold.

Saudi Arabia are next with 93 medals comprising 40 gold, 33 silver, and 20 bronze. Kuwait are close behind in third with 89 medals (23 gold, 31 silver, 35 bronze).

Bahrain lie fourth with 57 medals (19 gold, 15 silver, 23 bronze) with Qatar up to fourth place with 42 medals (17 gold, 10 silver, 15 bronze). Oman are sixth with 46 medals comprising 17 gold, 10 silver, and 19 bronze.

Four days remain of competition in the event running from 16 April to 2nd May.

Emirati Sheikha Al Khatiri made history by chairing the refereeing committee for the archery competitions at the inaugural Gulf Youth Games.

Sheikha Al Khatiri said: "During the challenging period of the Covid-19 pandemic, my venture started with the training of national referees." She aims to obtain the international badge and officiate at global tournaments. Her vision is the establishment of an Emirati women's refereeing team in Ras Al Khaimah to represent the country on the international stage.

The Gulf Youth Games archery championship is overseen by a panel of 12 Arab referees, including two Emirati referees.
