Rowing made its debut in the sports lineup of the European University Sports Association (EUSA) in 2005, when the first European University Rowing Championships were held in Cardiff, Wales, UK. 

The 2023 European Universities Rowing Championship held in Bydgoszcz, Poland, from 7-10 September, attracted 524 participants from 81 universities and 20 different countries, making it one of the top three most attended events.

As rowing won't be part in this year's European Universities Games in Debrecen-Miskolc, the EUSA Executive Committee has chosen Ankara to host the 14th European Universities Rowing Championship from 29 August to 1 September 2024.

National University Sports organisations can register their teams via the registration platform, with 30 April being the initial deadline. The competition will include different categories for both male and female rowers. For men, the categories include LMlx, Mlx, LM2x, M2x, LM2-, M2-, LM4-, M4-, LM4x, M4x, and M8+. Women will compete in LWlx, Wlx, W2-, LW2x, W2x, W4-, W4x, LW4x, and W8+.

Women are allowed to cox men's crews, and vice versa, with no limit on the number of boats. Last year, the most successful team was the University of Kazimierz Wielki in Poland with two gold medals, four silver medals and two bronze medals.

It was followed by the University of Aveiro in Portugal with two gold medals, one silver medal and one bronze medal, and the University of Vienna in Austria with two first places and one bronze medal.
