The capital of Peru will host its first major sporting event from 27-31 August 2024, when the U20 World Athletics Championships will be held at the National Sports Village (Videna) athletics stadium.

Lima is establishing itself as an attractive hub for international sport. From hosting the 2019 Pan American Games to the recent award of the 2027 Pan American Games, replacing Barranquilla, which was withdrawn due to breaches of contract.

In addition to the major Pan American events in the capital, Peru will host six World Championships in 2024 alone, including the U20 World Athletics Championships from 27-31 August at the National Sports Village (Videna) athletics stadium.

The U20 Athletics World Championships, which will be held in Lima at the National Sports Village (Videna) Athletics Stadium from 27-31 August, will bring together around 1,700 athletes from 170 countries, making it the largest sporting event in Peru's history, at least for a single discipline.

Of course, the Lima Pan American Games, which took place from 26 July to 11 August 2019, brought together more than 6,500 athletes from 40 American countries in various disciplines, similar to the Parapan American Games, which brought together around 1,900 athletes from 30 countries.

The Videna Athletics Stadium hosted the U18 Ibero-American Athletics Championships last September and plans to host the U20 South American Championships on the same track before the U20 World Championships in August.

In addition to these tournaments, Peru has hosted internationally acclaimed athletic events such as the 2017 Pan American Sub-20 Championships, which welcomed more than 400 athletes from 40 countries to Trujillo's Chan Chan Stadium. The event was a success and ended with a world record in the final event, courtesy of the United States 4x400 relay team.

The year 2024 will be another important one for Peru, which will host not only the U20 Athletics World Championships, but also the Junior World Championships in weightlifting, artistic swimming, judo, U-17 volleyball and shooting.

The athletic event promises to be a new achievement for the country's sporting organisation, located between the Andes, the Amazon and the Pacific Ocean in the heart of South America.
