There were some big names in Canada over the weekend at the 2024 Canada Open. 2022 World Champions Omar Gergely Salim (Hungary) and Carlos Sansores (Mexico) were two of the two biggest names, and they did not disappoint.

Salim, who qualified for Paris 2024 in the men's -58kg, won the men's -63kg. He defeated 2023 World bronze medallist Adrian Vicente of Spain in the final. His younger brother Sharif Gergely Salim finished third in the -58kg category, where the gold medal went to Australia's Bailey Lewis. 

Sansores was the best in the men's +87 kg category. Another star name, 2023 Grand Prix Final gold medallist Geon-woo Seo of Korea, was only third in the men's +80kg category, where Henrique Rodrigues of Brazil took gold. Brazilian taekwondo athletes won a total of five gold medals (three men, two women). The USA won three gold medals, two of them in the women's competition.

-Men's 54 kg: Nithan Brindamohan (Canada).

-Men's 58 kg: Bailey Lewis (Australia).

-Men's 63 kg: Omar Gergely Salim (Hungary).

-Men's 68 kg: Joao Victor Souza (Brazil).

-Men's 74 kg: Noah Shanafelt (USA).

-Men's 80 kg: Henrique Rodrigues (Brazil).

-Men's 87 kg: Allif Souza (Brazil).

-Men's +87 kg: Carlos Sansores (México).

-Women's -46 kg: Bianca Motta (Brazil).

-Women's -49 kg: Maya Mata (USA).

-Women's -53 kg: Po-ya Su (Taipei).

-Women's -57 kg: Clara Maria Pacheco (Brazil).

-Women's -62 kg: Nadja Tesic (Serbia).

-Women's -67 kg: Milena Titoneli (Brazil).

-Women's -73 kg: Crystal Weekes (Puerto Rico).

-Women's +73 kg: Naomi Alade (USA).
