The Gotham FC clinched the title in the Women's National Soccer League (NWSL) by defeating OL Reign 2-1 in San Diego. Esther González scored the championship-winning goal, marking the first for the team led by Juan Carlos Amorós.

In a game filled with emotions due to the retirement of the legend Megan Rapinoe, who got injured in the third minute of her farewell match, Esther González became the hero by scoring the decisive goal in the final.

The Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the final was awarded to Midge Purce, who orchestrated her team's play and was instrumental in the tactical construction of Gotham FC with two assist passes.

Meanwhile, captain Ali Krieger bid farewell to the professional fields in the best possible way: she led a team that went from last place to champion in just one year and lifted the trophy to the delight of fans, allowing her club to proudly display its first-ever Cup in the trophy cabinet.

Another crucial player in the championship throughout the grueling season was Williams, who totaled 8 goals, securing her position as the top scorer for the now NWSL champion team.

A legend departs:

The retirement of Megan Rapinoe at the age of 38 and after a 21-year career marks the farewell to one of the greatest players in the history of North American women's football. A two-time world champion, Olympic gold medalist in London 2012, and the FIFA Ballon d'Or winner in 2019, among numerous accolades earned in her extraordinary career.
