Britain's most successful female Olympian Dame Laura Kenny is set to appear in The Journey, a documentary series designed to show the lives of four British athletes as they prepare for next year's Olympic Games in Paris.

Kenny, the winner of five Olympic gold medals in track cycling, will appear alongside three other British athletes in the four part series.

The first episode, released today features Roxanne Milliner, who competes in breaking where she is known as B-Girl Roxy.

Milliner hopes to become the first breaker to represent Britain when the sport makes its Olympic debut at Paris 2024.

She had competed at elite level in trampoline before switching sports.

"There are a lot of gymnasts who go into breaking because of the similarities in a lot of the movement so, I got really good, really quickly," Milliner said

She overcame a serious injury at 15 when she broke a bone in her back and was uncertain if she would be able to walk again.

"Looking back, I realise that breaking was my way of expressing myself and dealing with the pain," Milliner added.

"When I’m feeling happy, I dance differently to when I’m heartbroken.

"I think when I’m heartbroken, I break the best."

In 2020, Milliner experienced a further set back when she tore a pelvic floor muscle while expecting son Leo and was forced into a wheelchair for most of her pregnancy.

"I was in the most pain I’ve ever known, but after Leo was born, I thought I can still do this, come on let’s go, going to the Olympics would be the best opportunity ever," Milliner said.

Milliner has also appeared in the chorus for the 2019 film of the Andrew Lloyd-Webber film Cats.

Breaking was not included in the programme for the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles so Paris may well be the only chance for Milliner, who turned 34 in August.

The last 14 quota places are set to be decided at the Olympic Qualifiers Series, scheduled to run from March to June 2024.
