Overnight heavy winds and rain made it impossible to properly prepare the venue for a safe and fair competition, forcing the cancellation of freeski finals at the Big Air Chur FIS Freeski World Cup.

Organisers announced that any Big Air Chur Festivalgoers with tickets for today who choose not to attend due to this cancellation can instead use them to attend the festival and snowboard World Cup competition due to take place tomorrow at no extra charge.

While the rain arrived overnight in Chur as forecasted, it was the heavier than expected, damaging winds through the night and into the morning that rendered the venue unsafe for course workers and officials to make the preparations necessary for freeski big air finals to take place in a safe conditions.

The Big Air Chur freeski qualifications completed successfully yesterday were used as the official result.

It meant Switzerland's Mathilde Gremaud took the win for the women, and Canada's Dylan Deschamps, competing in just his third career World Cup competition, earning his first career podium and the victory for the men.

Joining Gremaud on the women’s podium was two-time Chur winner Tess Ledeux of France, while Sarah Hoefflin gave the hosts Switzerland its second podium of the competition by taking third place.

Austria's Daniel Bacher earned his career podium by taking second place behind Deshcamps, while last year’s Chur winner Birk Ruud of Norway grabbed his ninth-straight World Cup podium with a third-place finish.

Despite the cancellation of the World Cup competition, the concert portion of the Big Air Chur Festival continued on schedule, with easing rains through the afternoon allowing the event to take place.
