In the first semi-final, the Swedish duo prevailed against Michał Bryl and Bartosz Łosiak of Poland in the Mexican state of Tlaxcala.

They triumphed in a tense three-set battle, which ended 21-11, 20-22, 18-16, to advance.

"It was a similar match to yesterday’s," Hellvig said, referencing their three-set quarter-final duel.

"We lost the second set and going into the third, we knew anything could happen.

"We felt we didn't have the courage to go for it on some plays, so when we sat on the bench for the timeout, we just told each other that this was our chance and that we had to go for it.

"It's never too late to win the match."

If they are victorious in the final, the Swedish pair will become the two youngest ever players to win the title with Åhman at 21 years, 10 months and 25 days and Hellvig at 22 years and 10 days.

They will face Perusic and Schweiner in the final after the Czech pair got the better of Americans Theo Brunner and Trevor Crabb 21-15, 21-12.

In the women's tournament, duos from the United States and Brazil will meet in the gold medal-match for the first time since 2011.

Americans Kelly Cheng and Sara Hughes are set to face defending champions Eduarda 'Duda' Lisboa and Ana Patrícia Ramos.

Cheng and Hughes came from behind to beat compatriots Taryn Kloth and Kristen Nuss 18-21, 21-12, 15-13.

"With them, we go into every single match knowing that it's going to be a dog fight," said Cheng.

"They're an amazing team, but I think we just brought so much fire.

"I think they snuck that first set because of our errors.

"Coming back to the second set, we still wanted to be aggressive, but also do hold back a little bit on our unforced errors.

"Sara did an amazing job pushing me out there and encouraging me to stay up against Kristen.

"It's just such a team win and I'm so proud."

Duda and Ana Patrícia then kept their title defence alive with a dominant 21-17, 21-14 defeat of Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games silver medallists Taliqua Clancy and Mariafe Artacho of Australia.

Competition is set to continue tomorrow with the finals in both tournaments.
