Hungarian trio Krisztofer Mészáros, Zója Székely and Gréta Mayer triumphed on home soil at the International Gymnastics Federation Artistic Gymnastics World Challenge Cup event in Szombathely.

It was a fantastic week for the Hungarian team as they warmed up for the FIG World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Antwerp later this month with a glittering collection of eight medals.

Mészáros set the ball rolling for Hungary when he clinched the men’s floor exercise crown with a score of 14.666 points.

It was enough to overcome the challenge of Bulgaria’s Eddie Penev who finished on 14.400 for silver, while Switzerland’s Luca Murabito scored 14.000 for bronze.

Mészáros finished the week with a medal of every colour having claimed parallel bars silver and horizontal bars bronze.

"These were the best routines of my life, and the scores affirmed it," said Mészáros.

"I expected the floor gold somewhat, but the horizontal bar and parallel bars medals were really great."

Székely secured another gold for Hungary when she topped the women’s uneven bars standings with 14.133.

Ukraine’s Yelyzaveta Hubareva bagged silver with 13.000, while the bronze went to Hungary’s Lili Czifra who totalled 12.933.

Mayer completed a hat-trick for Hungary when she emerged victorious from the women’s vault with a total of 13.149 points.

Czech Republic’s Alice Vlkova and India’s Pranati Nayak took the other places on the podium after notching 12.999 and 12.966 respectively.

Ukraine also enjoyed triple success in Szombathely, with titles for Nazar Csepurnyi. Oleg Verniaiev and Anna Laschevska.

There was a Ukrainian one-two in the women’s balance beam with Laschevska scoring 13.000 to beat compatriot Yelizaveta Hubareva who recorded 12.733 for silver.

Vlkova, the 15-year-old talent, added to her collection with bronze after scoring 12.466 and also grabbed a women’s floor exercise bronze with 12.800.

Sona Artamonova of the Czech Republic took the title with 12.966 as Czifra ranked second with 12.900.

Csepurnyi was crowned men’s vault champion courtesy of a score of 14.666, overcoming Switzerland’s Luca Murabito who totalled 14.249.

Hungary’s Molnár Botond amassed 13.999 for bronze.

Verniaiev clinched Ukraine’s third gold in the men’s parallel bars with a tally of 14.966 to get the better of Mészáros who scored 14.866 for silver.

Chepurnyi joined Verniaiev on the podium after earning 14.800 from the judges.

Ilias Georgiou led a Cypriot one-two in the men’s horizontal bars, notching a winning score of 14.433 to edge Marios Georgiou who sealed silver with 14.300.

Mészáros picked up her third medal of the week with a score of 14.266 for bronze.

Matvei Petrov of Albania denied Verniaiev a second gold when he won the men’s pommel horse with 14.733.

Verniaiev clinched second spot with 14.633, while Radomir Sliz of the Czech Republic rounded off the podium with 13.833.

Vinzenz Hoeck of Austria secured men’s rings gold with 14.300 as Sokratis Pilakouris of Cyprus claimed silver with 14.166 and Daniel Villafane of Argentina notched 13.900 for bronze.

The Artistic Gymnastics World Challenge Cup series is set to finish at the Bercy Arena in Paris from September 16 to 17, with the competition due to serve as a test event for the Paris 2024 Olympics.
