Mongolia claimed double gold on the first day of the World Para Taekwondo Open Challenge as the Gangwon Chuncheon 2023 World Taekwondo Cultural Festival continued.

The World Para Taekwondo Open Challenge was the last of the four premier events to feature at the Cultural Festival, following on from the Octagon Diamond Games, Demonstration Team Championships and Beach Championships.

World Para Taekwondo Open Challenge action took place at the Songam Sports Town Main Stadium in Chuncheon with Mongolia’s first gold coming in the men’s K44 under-58 kilograms category.

The gold went to Tyemirbyek Khaulyet, who defeated Xiang wen Xiao of Chinese Taipei.

In the men’s under-63kg, Bolor Erdene-Anbat claimed a second Mongolian gold of the day, defeating Antonino Bossolo of Italy.

The final men’s category decided today was at under-70kg, with victory going to Azerbaijan’s Imamaddin Khalilov, who beat Shunsuke Kudo of Japan.

In the women’s events, the under-47kg title went to Khwansuda Phuangkitcha of Thailand, who beat Ziyodakhon Isakova of Uzbekistan.

Finally, in the under-65kg category the gold medal went to Elena Savinskaya, competing as an individual neutral athlete, who overcame Thailand’s Awipa Phuaphan.   

Action is due to continue in the K44 events, with medals up for grabs in the men’s under-80kg, plus women’s over+65kg and men’s over+80kg.
