Slovakia’s Danka Bartekova won the women’s skeet title at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Championships after a tremendous contest against Dania Vizzi of the United States which went to a shoot off for gold in Baku.

Bartekova and Vizzi were tied on 54 hits before the shoot off and matched one another in a tense competition in glorious sunlight at the Baku Shooting Center.

The Slovakian finally prevailed by 11 shots to 10 to take the title and make sure of a quota place for Paris 2024.

"It took me 25 years to get this title, it was very emotional because I was missing this medal and I am extremely happy I did it today,” Bartekova said.

"It means a lot, I have waited a long time and it is one of the highlights of my career."

"The final was extremely difficult because of the breeze, so it took me some time to read the speed and trajectory," Bartekova continued.

"I am very proud of myself that I handled the pressure of the shoot off with Dania, she’s an excellent shooter and a world champion there was not a weak shooter in the final so it was extremely difficult."

Emmanouela Katzouraki of Greece took bronze and with it an Olympic quota place.

The American trio of Vizzi, Austen Smith and Samantha Simonton claimed gold in the team event with a score of 365.

Italy’s 1820 Martina Bartolomei, Diana Bakosi and Simona Scocchetti took silver with 360 and Bartekova helped her Slovakian team mates Vanessa Hockova and Monika Stibrava claim the bronze with 359.
