D'Tigresses managed to nullify the threat of Senegalese playmaker Cierra Dillard and were deadly on attack to develop a double-digit lead going into the fourth quarter at the BK Arena.

Senegal then managed to cut the deficit to 69-64 in the fourth quarter but that was as close as they could get, as they clinched a record-extending 12^th gold medal at the continental event.

Nigeria's starters were in fantastic form, with three of the five finishing on double digit point totals as Elizabeth Balogun, Sarah Ogoke, and Amy Okonkwo netted 15, 13, and 14 points, respectively.

The side extended their winning streak to 24 consecutive matches which dates back to the 2015 Women's AfroBasket tournament.

Okonkwo was named as the competition's Most Valuable Player as she averaged 17.2 points and 8.2 rebounds per game.

"We have a coach that believes in us," said the 26-year-old.

"It has us fighting till the end, even in adversity.

"So we knew we had our destiny in our hands.

"Even when Senegal came back, we knew we had to step up, to keep together and we made it happen.

"I was playing in Mexico this summer, and I'm thankful to have the opportunity to come and lead.

"And I had the opportunity to lead the team.

"I told to myself that I was not coming to Kigali to lose anything.

"And being MVP is a huge honour."

Okonkwo was joined on the All-Tournament team by Dillard, Ugandan Jannon Otto, Sika Kone of Mali, and Mozambique's Tamara Seda.

Earlier in the day, Mali cruised to the bronze medal as they dominated host nation Rwanda 89-52.

Despite only spending 20 minutes on the court, Mariam Coulibaly starred for Mali as she claimed a game-high 11 rebounds and also contributed nine points.
