The Sunshine Girls annihilated Trinidad and Tobago 89-26 to record their fifth consecutive victory at the Cape Town International Convention Centre.

The world number four side dominated from the first whistle as they surged into a 20-6 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Goal shooter Romelda Aiken-George started the match in place of captain Jhaniele Fowler and scored 12 of the team's 20 goals in the period.

A similarly straightforward second period saw the Jamaicans go into the half-time break with a 44-10 advantage.

Aiken-George continued her fine form to top score in the match with 37 goals from 42 attempts as Jamaica prevailed 89-26, with a relentless and ruthless display.

Victory sees Jamaica go top on eight points after New Zealand and South Africa could not be separated.

The pair played out a pulsating 48-48 draw that puts the Silver Ferns place in the tournament under threat.

Goal attack Nicholé Taljaard produced a brilliant display to be named player of the match for a second consecutive time.

New Zealand looked uneasy in the opening stages but edged the first quarter by one goal before taking a 26-21 lead at half-time. 

The Proteas, however, were spurred on by a raucous home crowd and eventually cut down a fourth-quarter six-goal lead to one with just 20 seconds remaining.

Taljaard then capitalised on superb defence to equalise at the last.

New Zealand remain in second place, with the top two advancing to the semi-finals on seven points, while South Africa are on five.

For the hosts to progress they need to beat Uganda by a heavy scoreline tomorrow and hope that New Zealand lose to Jamaica.

Elsewhere in the tournament, Zimbabwe beat Singapore 68-40, Sri Lanka pipped Barbados 60-56, and Uganda dispatched Wales 73-56.
