Australia and Japan secured team jumping qualification spots for Paris 2024 at the Olympic Qualifying Event for Group G in Valkenswaard.

Four teams competed at the competition held at the Longines Tops International Arena in the Dutch city, with New Zealand and China missing out on qualifying places.

Christopher Burton, Edwina Tops Alexander, Laura Balcomb and Hilary Scott produced a score of 23 penalties in the jump-off - seven in the first round and 16 in the second.

Balcomb on Verdini D’Houtzeld Z was a leading performer with a clean first round and four penalties in the second.

"This is probably the best feeling in the world," she said afterwards.

"We were expecting the competition to be pretty tough and I thought the course designer did a great job to challenge us, but Verdini is such a special character and he was brilliant today."

Japan's team of Eiken Sato, Yuko Itakura, Mike Kawai and Taizo Sugitani ranked second with 32 penalties, after collecting eight in the first round and 24 in the second.

New Zealand ranked third with 46 penalties, followed by China in fourth on 59.

Australia and Japan became the 10th and 11th teams to earn Paris 2024 places in jumping.

For Australia, it means they have qualified for Paris 2024 in all team equestrian disciplines after securing dressage and eventing places, while it was the first discipline in which Japan have qualified.

Both qualified for the team jumping event at Tokyo 2020, but Australia were unable to complete after Jamie Kermond tested positive for a metabolite of cocaine.

Neither nation has ever won a jumping medal at the Olympics.

Hosts France were automatically secured of a team jumping place at Paris 2024, while Sweden, The Netherlands, Britain, Ireland and Germany earned places at last year's International Equestrian Federation World Championships in Herning.

Belgium were assured of a place through last year's Jumping Nations Cup Final in Barcelona, and Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates through the Group F qualification event in Doha.

Further berths are available ay a Group C qualifier in Prague from July 27 to 30, the European Jumping Championships from August 29 to September 3, the Jumping Nations Cup Final in Barcelona from September 28 to October 1 and the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games from October 31 to November 3.
