Niels Torre began the home gold rush in the lightweight men's single sculls as he raced patiently to defeat the rest of the field.

His victory was followed by lightweight men's pair success for Francesco Bardelli and Stefano Pinsone and the hat-trick was completed when the Italians won the lightweight men's quadruple sculls.

Italy also won the men's double sculls at the second World Cup of the season on Lago di Varese, thanks to Luca Rambaldi and Matteo Sartori.

Elsewhere, Germany took home both the men's and women's single sculls titles as Oliver Zeidler and Alexandra Foester celebrated victory.

Zeidler won with clear water as Foester came home by three quarters of a length.

Great Britain won four gold medals, including the men's eights title with clear water.

Oliver Wynne-Griffith and Tom George dominated the men's pair and Emily Craig and Imogen Grant seized gold by just 0.08 seconds in the lightweight women's double sculls.

In the men's four, Britain wrestled the lead in the final quarter to win gold by half a length over Australia.

The Australians did celebrate two titles with Jessica Morrison and Annabelle McIntyre blowing away the field to win the women's pair.

Australia also took home the gold medal in the women's eights.

China won a pair of titles - the women's double sculls for Shiyu Lu and Shuang Mei and the quadruple sculls.

In the women's four, the United States opened up a clear length before crossing first and Poland held off pressure from Britain and Italy to win the men's quadruple sculls.

France's Aurelie Morizot led from start to win the lightweight women's single sculls and the lightweight men's double sculls went to Switzerland's Jan Schaeuble and Raphael Ahumada Ireland after a clear lead from halfway.
