The Swiss are seeking a fourth World Women’s Championship in five years and they faced Sweden in the first of their matches on day two at the Goransson Arena.

Scores of four on end three and three on end five helped Silvana Tirinzoni’s team to a 9-3 win with only six ends of play required.

In the evening session Switzerland were also convincing winners, overcoming Turkey 7-2.

Switzerland sit top of the standings after five of the 20 scheduled round-robin sessions with an unbeaten record of four wins and no losses.

Behind them five teams have a record of two wins and one defeat.

Of these teams Canada were edged out 8-7 by the US, with the US scoring a single on the last end to earn the win.

Canada responded later in the day with a 9-6 win over Norway.

Also on the 2 and 1 mark are Denmark, who beat Scotland 9-7, but were then defeated 6-3 by South Korea.

Germany registered two wins today to join the cluster of teams on 2 and 1, beating New Zealand 8-2 and Italy 7-4.

Italy are on the same score despite the loss to Germany, having earlier in the day won 8-3 against South Korea.

Norway are the fifth team on 2 and 1, today beating the US 7-5 before losing 9-6 to Canada.

Only New Zealand are winless after two days of action, having lost all three of their matches, including a 13-10 loss to Turkey and then the defeat against Germany today.

In the day’s other match Japan claimed a dramatic 9-8 win over Scotland, scoring four shots on the last end to overturn an 8-5 deficit.

Round-robin play is due to conclude on Friday (March 24).
