India claimed four gold medals, while hosts Nepal secured two at the 2023 Asian Cross Country Championships at the Gokarna Forest Resort in Kathmandu.

Deepak Adhikari of Nepal claimed two gold medals as he was successful in the men's 10 kilometres race and the 10km team event alongside Mukesh Bahadur Rai, Dipak Suhang and Rajan Rokaya in the 16th edition of these Championships.

He finished with a time of 33min 52sec in the individual event, edging past Japan's Daichi Kamino.

Rai also finished third in the individual event on a good day for the hosts as the Championships took place for the first time since 2018. 

In the team event, Nepal finished ahead of Iran and India.

India were victorious in the women's 10km team event as Sonika, Munni Devi, Chhavi Devi and Sanjivni Devi Jadhavl finished ahead of Nepal and Thailand.

Japan's Yua Sarumida won the women's individual event, finishing ahead of Nepal's Rajpura Pachhai and Sonika, in an event contested by 11 nations with China being among those who did not take part. 


India won the junior women's 6km event thanks Srushti Shridar Redekar, who claimed another gold in the team event.

Iran's Samir Eghbalighahyazi won the junior boys 8km race, with India winning the team event.

India finished atop the medal standing with four gold, one silver and three bronzes.

Nepal was second with two gold medals, four silvers and two bronzes.
