Max Langenhan came from twelfth place in the first run to win the International Luge Federation (FIL) World Cup at Sigulda in Latvia.

The German's first run fell away at the end as he clocked 49.178sec and looked out of the reckoning with Austria's Nico Gleirscher in lead position followed by Latvia's Kristers Aparjods.

But a time of 48.410 was well beyond anyone else on the second run, leaving Langenhan 0.058 ahead of his nearest challenger, compatriot Felix Loch.

Aparjods remained on the podium in third place, 0.085sec adrift, as Gleirscher dropped to fourth.

Germany also won the men's doubles thanks to Beijing 2022 champions Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt, who finished third in the first run before finishing fastest in the second run for a total of 1min 24.022sec.

Home pairings filled the rest of the podium as Martins Bots and Roberts Plume, fastest in the first run, clocked a total of 1:24.084.

Third place went to Latvia's Eduards Sevics-Mikelsevics and Lukass Krasts, 0.089 behind the winners.
