Muaythai has been officially approved by the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) and recognised by the body's Board as the newest member.

The acceptance of United States Muaythai is hoped to increase the sport's popularity and development in the country.

The National Federation has praised President Michael Corley for his work on improving its credibility over the last three years of his Presidency.

"This is one of the proudest days of my life by the credit must go to all members of United States Muaythai fulfilling the important requirements which United States Muaythai has worked under the IOC [International Olympic Committee] world recognised federation, IFMA (International Federation of Muaythai Associations)," said Corley.

"United States Muaythai will add important value to the Olympic Movement and will continue to work in good governance making the athletes the center and focusing on anti-doping and safeguarding, youth development, inclusion and gender equality."

The martial art's appearance at last year's World Games in Birmingham in Alabama represented a key step for the organisation's acceptance.

"United States Muaythai has been one of the most outstanding IFMA member countries with respect to youth development," said IFMA Athletes' Commission chair Janice Lyn.

"Team USA won twice 'The Best Team at the IFMA Youth World Championships and the result of this important grassroots work was paid off at The World Games 2022 in Birmingham where Team USA Muaythai came out on top as the best Muaythai National Team of the event and has been nominated by The World Games to be the Team of the Year for 2022.

"This alone, should gain all our respect and also displays to the US Olympic and Paralympic Committee the quality and also strategic work of United States Muaythai led by President Michael Corley."
