Having been required to come from a game behind to win his semi-final against Japan's Kodai Naraoka yesterday, Axelsen enjoyed a more comfortable decider, which was settled inside 46 minutes 21-13, 21-14 in his favour.

In the women's singles final, back-to-back world champion Yamaguchi became the first player since 1997 to triumph at the All England Open, World Championships and end-of-season finals in the same year.

She won two tight games against Chinese Taipei's Olympic silver medallist Tai Tzu-ying 21-18 and 22-20 to emerge victorious.
